Pool FAQs

1. Why should I buy an above ground pool vs. an inground pool?
An above ground pool cost much less to start, cost much less for repairs. Because the walls are over 52" tall, there is no fence required. There is more room to play - (3/4 of most inground pools is over 5' deep).

2. But I want a big pool?
A standard 16 x 32 inground pool has 17,700 gallons. A standard 27" round above ground pool has almost 19,000 gallons.

3. I don't like looking out my back window and seeing a metal pool.
A lot of people with above ground pools have some decking around the pool. This deck can be designed so you only see the top of the pool.

4. I have little kids and my mother likes to stay on the steps in an inground pool. What can I do about that?
Deluxe wedding cake steps are also available for above ground pools. Easy to install and much less money.

5. Anything else I should know?
Some areas raise your property taxes for inground pools and some areas have a water table too high for inground installations.

6. How do I pick out the correct above ground pool?
Hesselson's has 5 water filled displays set up on our lot from April through August. Do not make your final decision by looking at pictures. These 5 displays show all the styles and sizes so you can see before you buy.

7. I see packages on the website. Are these complete with everything we need?
Hesselson's packages are more complete than anywhere else - more chlorine, more chemicals, and more accessories. When you compare item for item, Hesselson's offers the best value. If you live in New York State, the law says you must add an alarm. Also installation is available and extra based on your individual situation. ** Prices do NOT include installation because we need to know where you live, size of the pool, and the size of the dig. Please call us for a price quote at 800-540-4665. Prices range from $1,500-$2,500)

8. I see cheaper pool packages listed other places on the internet. Why?
There are a lot of different quality of pools and most packages do not include everything Hesselson's does. You can bring in to the store any other quote and Hesselson's sales people will show you the differences and give you a quote from Hesselson's for the same items on your other quote.

9. I just need a new liner and a few parts for my 8 year old pool. Can you help me?
Replacement liners are available for any pool. Hesselson's carries a large selection of parts for the pools and filters that we sell. Pool and filter parts are unique to the style - Ford parts don't fit Chevy cars.

10. Is it worth fixing an old or used pool.
The average life for an above ground pool is 10-12 years. After that, the structural integrity of the pool wall is suspect. Pool walls have to hold a lot of water weight. They must be in great shape. Look for rust around the skimmer. That will help you decide.

11. What about the cheap pool packages I see at all the big discount stores?
These packages are cheaper because the filters and ladders are very small. At Hesselson's, we make sure you get the right size filter and one that is good enough to last the life of the pool. Many people who buy one of those packages come to Hesselson's within a year or two looking for a filter that really works and a ladder they are not afraid to climb on. Those packages also do not include all of the chemicals and accessories you will need. Don't be fooled, check with Hesselson's before you buy.

12. Anything else I should know?
Hesselson's is a locally owned and operated store that started in 1955. There is a lot to be said for having a reputable pool dealer on your side if something happens to your pool. Best sales, best service, best assortment of parts and accessories. Hesselson's is the place to buy your pool.
